Dysfunction of these results in dysphagia, speech disorders and abnormal respiration (such as Sleep Apnea). These functions relate to dentistry in the occurrence of : (1) oral preparatory and oral phases, (2) articulation disorders and velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI), and (3) mouth breathing, respiratory and blowing disorders. These disorders are related to oral and maxillofacial diseases, and correlate with each other. In the dental clinic, treatment plans for oral dysfunction should be made using a multi-disciplinary evaluation approach. This report describes articulatory speech disorders that are closely related to dysphasia, and the anatomy and physiology of oral and maxillofacial functions.
